Thai director Anocha Suwichakornpong’s ethereal first film has been widely praised as one of the most startling and original feature debuts of recent years. This seemingly ordinary, astutely structured family drama is a film with cosmic aspirations.

The story of a paralysed son, his elusive father, and the male nurse hired to take care of the wheelchair-bound patient parallels the emotional dynamic of a single home with the tumult of an entire country. Like its dichotomic title, the film gradually expands outwards to morph into a philosophical and hallucinogenic meditation about our place in the universe. A film as beautiful, strange and as mysterious as life itself.
